Rolex Fastnet Race
The Rolex Fastnet Race, held every two years by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), has been a key part of the offshore racing circuit since 1925, when the club was founded. The 608-mile course puts competitors through their paces, as they face treacherous currents and often harsh weather conditions too. The fleet sets sail from Cowes and heads out into the Solent before crossing the stormy Celtic Sea. Having rounded the Fastnet Rock off the coast of Ireland, the boats return on a largely identical route, finishing in Plymouth.
Ever since it began back in 1925, the Fastnet regatta has been considered the definitive offshore challenge, and a victory in this event is a must for any major competitive yachtsman.
