Free Climbing in the USA
Cecilia Carreri went climbing in the U.S.A. with mountaineer Mario Dibona, on the Californian granite of the green, green Yosemite National Park! She tells us: "After spending a few days at the legendary Camp 4, and climbing on the smooth granite of Yosemite, we went to climb the mountains of the wonderful Tuolumne Meadows plateau, more than 2,000 metres above sea level.
Next, we hurried on to Red Rocks, Nevada, an extraordinary climb on the richly-coloured rocks, and finally the legendary Joshua Tree National Park, with its many blocks of pink granite and the succulent Joshua trees.
There were some very tricky free climbing routes: to attach the first karabiner, the Americans used a telescopic stick…!
After Joshua Tree we followed the Pacific coast northward, through Big Sur and Carmel, where the mayor went by the name of Clint Eastwood; a game of pool in San Francisco, and then the flight back to Italy."
