Piz Bernina

Cecilia Carreri tells us: "I climbed the 4,049-metre Piz Bernina on my own, the highest peak in the Rhaetian Alps. I left the Bernina Pass, climbed up to the Diavolezza refuge, and from there skied right along the Vedretta Pers in front of Piz Palù, climbed all the way up the ridge of the Fortaleza, where I left my skis on the rocky passages; from there I continued to the Bellavista slope, and on to the Marco e Rosa refuge. On the summit at dawn.

On my way back down, I recovered my skis on the Fortaleza, and enjoyed some extraordinary skiing as I began my descent; then back into the Vedretta Pers and down to the Diavolezza refuge, followed by a long run on my skis back to the car, which I had left near the railway in Pontresina."
